How To Create A Club On League
League of Legends: Clubs to Be Removed in Preseason 2021
League of Legends will no longer support their Clubs feature in Preseason 2021
Part of the fun of League of Legends is the social aspect of queuing up with friends whether it be your trusted duo partner or a full five-person Clash squad. To make grouping up with friends easier, Riot Games created Clubs, a feature that allowed every player to join a community, grab a club tag, and queue up with fellow clubmates.
Recently, Riot Games announced that they will be shutting down support for Clubs on both the client and League+ mobile app in the near future. The change comes as a result of updated technology and Riot's desire to focus on placing resources elsewhere, such as client improvement.
In a recent article announcing the end of Clubs, Riot outlined four reasons for their decision to stop supporting the feature. The first of which was the evolution of external community tools and resources used to find groups, research builds, and read champion guides. Riot encourages players to seek out these resources, such as Discord, to queue up with others.
Similarly, Riot also stated that they are forming a partnership with Discord in an attempt to transition Clubs to the platform. Discord will help players find their Club communities on their platform, allowing players to continue playing together with minimal complications.
Technological constraints were the third reason behind Riot's decision. The Clubs system is built on older software that would require a major rebuild to remain part of the client in the future. Rather than wasting resources to rebuild the feature, Riot instead decided to move Clubs elsewhere.
Finally, Riot stated that they prefer to focus on improving the game state and the overall client rather than smaller features overall. By removing Clubs, Riot can shift their focus elsewhere and spend their time and energy on more important aspects of League of Legends in order to improve the experience of playing the game.
On top of that, Riot Games have hinted that they are currently working on reworking items, champions, player behaviour report systems, and the client and hope that removing Clubs will speed this process up significantly.
Overall, considering the potential improvements to the game we could see as a result of the Clubs removal, this could be an incredibly positive change for League of Legends. With a plethora of community resources available to players, there will no doubt be a smooth transition to life without Clubs during Preseason 2021.
